Carolina Panthers: 3 Improvements Cam Newton Must Make In 2018

Newton Has To Hit The Open Reciever

This is the easy one here. We all know the knock on Cam has been his accuracy. Kelvin Benjamin put him on the spot this offseason with his comment and while many have defended Newton, the truth is, he’s inaccurate. For his career, Newton has completed just 58.5 percent of his attempts.

While that number is better than some, for a QB considered to be one of the best in the league, Newton is underperforming. The knock on the Panthers is that they have not placed enough weapons around Newton to turn him into a Brees or Matt Ryan-like thrower. But the truth is, does he really need a player like Antonio Brown or Julio Jones around him? The Panthers’ offense is more dump-off to the backs and Greg Olsen than it is hitting receivers in stride on a ‘Go Route”.

But think, if Newton were to correct over and sometimes underthrowing his receivers, imagine how dangerous he and his team could be. Going into this season, he will have a speedy player in D.J. Moore. This could be like having a younger Steve Smith in the lineup. If Cam can control his arm, the Panthers offense will be a force in 2018.
