Cars 3 new trailer takes Lightning McQueen back to original roots (Video)

It’s finally here. The official trailer for Pixar’s new Cars 3 movie arrived last night during the National Championship game between Alabama and Clemson. For weeks we were giving a quick teaser trailer that showed our favorite race car, Lightning McQueen involved in an accident.

The new trailer starts off the same with McQueen in the accident but it goes more in-depth as the racing community feels that McQueen should call it a career and head into retirement. It seems that McQueen is being forced out by a new age of race cars and that his time has come and gone.

“Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!”

While contemplating his racing career, McQueen goes back to his roots to rediscover the love that made him what he is.

The new film will focus on racing unlike the second where it was more fluff and high-profile grandstanding and less about the characters that made the first Cars so popular. Cars 3 will get a much-needed breath of fresh air with new director and Pixar veteran Brian Fee. Fee has worked on Ratatouille and WALL-E and both Cars movies but this will be his first time as the lead. This is exactly what the franchises needs as Cars 2 took a major hit critic-wise but still performed well at the Box Office.

But, has the franchise been forgotten over the years? The last Cars movie was released in 2011, since then the world has been taken over by Marvel, DC, Storks, and Angry Birds. But if Dora can make a comeback then it’s still room in the land of animation for McQueen.
