Cavemen Review: Starbucks Cloud Macchiato

Cavemen Radio Show is in search of all the greatest products people are dying to try. The problem is, consumers often don’t want to waste the money to be disappointed with a product they’ve never had. Since most companies no longer offer free samples or “money back guarantees”, CMRS is here to do the heavy lifting. The latest in the world of free criticism is Starbucks’ Cloud Macchiato.

The world is obsessed with coffee and energy drinks. Gone are the days of most people’s 9-5 jobs that have been traded in for 10+ hour shifts. The more we work the more we need energy. As the world turns to Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks and Tim Hortons as the heavy hitters on the block, smaller coffee shops are popping up as the need for the extra kick in the pants hits.

Starbucks is at the forefront of trendy new drinks that set themselves apart from the typical brew-and-pour morning coffee. Their latest creation is the Cloud Macchiato:

Starbucks Cloud Macchiato is a dreamy addition to the Starbucks menu, with luxurious layers of flavor with every sip.

So , what is it?

Our Cloud Macchiato is light and airy with layers of fluffy foam*, cascading espresso, vanilla-flavored syrup and a drizzle of caramel served over ice. It’s a whole new way to love your Macchiato.*contains egg.

I gotta admit, I’m a cream and sugar kind of guy. I don’t do the whole Macchiatos or Frappuccinos. No Lattes or Mochas for me. No just give me the two cream/four sugar regular roast coffee and send me on my way. But in the name of research and reviews, I took one for the team for you guys.

I took the plunge and went for the Grande (16 oz) sized Cloud Macchiato. It’s not their largest size but let’s face it, I was already goin’ home, so no need to go big. Or is it Venti? Either way, you can get it hot or iced. Of course, I went with hot. Sorry, cold-brew and iced coffee drinkers but there’s something about a nice hot cup-o-joe that just touches your soul.

Taking the plunge on my first Macchiato, I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised. Starbucks really has a knack for a good cup of coffee. Sure, it’s not the 99-cent cup of coffee you’re going to get at your local gas station. You get what you pay for. So was the Cloud Macchiato worth it?

Sure, I 100% would drink Starbucks’ latest creation again. From the foam of the first sip to the flavor of the coffee, the Cloud Macchiato is a definite “buy again”. The real hang up is the price. To buy a Grande Cloud Macchiato it cost $5.05. Like many treats, this may be a once in a while kind of drink. Buying the Grande drink before work could get quite costly. You’d easily spend $100 a month if you were to drink it on the way to work each day.

Thank the gods for gift cards. If not for a Starbucks gift card, I may not have even pulled the trigger. As happy as I am with the taste of the drink itself, it’ll be hard to pull out the wallet for this morning kick in the pants. If cost isn’t a concern for you, by all mean, buy away. The Cloud Macchiato is better than your average cup of coffee. Good, but not amazing, this Starbucks latest creation is a 4 out of 5 stars.
