Channing Frye Is The Perfect Choice To Be A Coach On The Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers need a head coach. While the team is believed to be targeting experienced assistant coaches on prominent teams, one name that could be a darkhorse for a potential role on the coaching staff is Channing Frye.

Nobody expects Frye to get the head coaching job. He’ll have been out of the league for less than a year when the next NBA season starts up. Going right into the head coaching realm might be too great of an undertaking. However, Frye’s knowledge of the game makes him the perfect choice to be an assistant.

Without Channing Frye on the roster this season, there’s no way the Cleveland Cavaliers would have been as determined to win games. A lot of Cleveland media and fans wanted the team to tank. The Cavs had other motives. In large part to Frye, Cleveland fought tooth and nail every game.

The impact of Channing Frye won’t show up on a box score. In his 4 years as a Cavalier, he averaged less than 7 points. What players, fans, and coaches will remember most is his leadership skills. Frye is a natural born leader. You can tell by the amount of support the Cavs roster game him during the team’s final two home games.

If Frye were to take on an assistant coach role in Cleveland, it would give the team a comfortability factor. There’s going to be a learning curve with any new coach. And while it’s the new coach’s job to assemble a staff, having Frye would help ease the transition for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

A lot of players have made the transition from playing career to coaching. Tyronn Lue, who coached the Cleveland Cavaliers to their only NBA Championship, was a former member of the Los Angeles Lakers impressive NBA Championship team’s. Gaining experience on the court is valuable to knowing the game. Frye is a true NBA veteran who understands the x’s and o’s of professional basketball.

Cleveland is looking for someone who can help the young stars develop. That’s Channing Frye. He’ll be a great assistant for the Cavaliers. At some point, Frye will be head coach material. The new coaching regime would benefit from adding him to develop his coaching techniques.
