Channing Frye Will Go Down As A Cleveland Cavaliers Legend

Channing Frye

LeBron James might be Cleveland’s greatest sports hero. Channing Frye can give him a run for his money. The Land absolutely adores him. With Frye announcing his retirement, how will he be remembered in Cleveland?

Frye, who was a part of the Cavs 2016 NBA Championship team, is a class act. The Cavaliers traded him during the 2017-18 season to the Los Angeles Lakers. After the season, Frye made his way back to Cleveland. He did so knowing how bad the team would be.

Considering what Frye went through during his career, to have a fan base love and support you like Cleveland has must mean the world to him. The city does indeed have his back. Frye might not be the best player on the Cavs, but he’s one of the most adored.

It’s not often a player who averages 6.8 points and 3.1 rebounds for a team get his jersey retired by the franchise. That’s the situation the Cavs find themselves in.

Frye came to the team this season to be a veteran presence in the locker room. He could have been a lot of other places, yet Cleveland is where he chose. Honestly, it’s a no-brainer he should have his jersey hanging from the rafters. His impact will be felt on this franchise for years to come.

Frye’s loyalty to the Cavs is astounding given how much of a bad rep the city has. Aside from Baker Mayfield, you could argue Frye is the most popular pro athlete in the city. That’s unheard of for the 12th man on a teams roster.

There have been so many positive things Frye has done in Cleveland. He’s involved with charities, active in the community, and even created a popular podcast with former Cavalier, Richard Jefferson. Again, to have someone willing to come to the city, that’s rare. That’s just the kind of man Frye is. He was willing to put his playing time on the backburner to focus on teaching the young Cavs all of his tricks.

Channing Frye was a true stretch big in the league. He was one of the most consistent 3-point shooters in the NBA. The time has come to retire. Frye won’t make the Hall of Fame. That doesn’t matter to Cavalier fans. He’s made the city of Cleveland proud. That’s something he can look back on and know his career was a success.
