Chicago Fire: Did Severide Forgive Stella Too Easily?
Let’s be fair here, should Kelly Severide have forgiven Stella Kidd as fast as he did? Severide is no angel but what Kidd did was a bit harsh. Did the writers of Chicago Fire get their wires crossed here?
Kidd was set to become the next Lieutenant in House 51. Instead, she decided to help get Girls on Fire launched in different cities, and during that time, she closed out everyone, Severide included.
The job was hers but most importantly, she and Severide just got engaged. So why did she just ghost him the way that she did?
Stella gave Severide the excuse that it was all too much. But she did her best to reassure him that it was nothing personal regarding their relationship. That’s a bit hard to believe. There were instances where she left his messages on read and didn’t return his calls. How could he not take that personally?

With Bowden looking for answers, he went to Severide who didn’t have any. That made Kelly look bad as if he didn’t know his woman as good as he thought he did or anyone else for that matter. And then, just like that, she walked back into his life as if she did nothing wrong.
How would that sit with fans if it was the other way around? Can men just get away with that excuse nowadays? Image if that was Kelly who was ghosting Stella. What if he just vanished for 2 months with little to no word as to where he was and when he’s returning? Would Stella have stayed by his side or just as calm as Kelly was when he returned?
In all fairness, he did give her a bit of a cold shoulder but was it enough?
Did the writers of Chicago Fire just showcase a double standard here? As a fan, I forgive Stella as life is no cakewalk but if I tried that with my significant other, I would’ve come home to changed locks on the door and my clothes in bags waiting for me.
His response showed the growth Severide has gone through over the years. But has Stella grown any? What she pulled was a classic Gabriela Dawson move. And yet, here we are still cheering for them. Their relationship has been tested over and over and this was just another obstacle they had to overcome.
Can they make it work? Let’s hope so. It appears they have great chemistry and it would be a shame to see them part ways but Stella has to know she can’t pull anything like this again.
Severide is no angel but he does deserve better than this.
