Chicago Fire: Ranking The Best Relationships Over The Years

Chicago Fire

Watching Chicago Fire is like watching a replay of a family reunion. A few arguments, loud voices, a few tense moments but most of all, some good times. This is how we can describe this awesome drama that NBC has provided us with for 10 seasons. Chicago Fire is easily one of the best-written shows on primetime TV.

Even with the explosions, deaths, and life saving that goes on weekly, the big draw for Fire fans has always been the relationships. It’s not all about how we felt about Matt and Gabby or Severide and Anna. Chicago Fire shows a bond between brothers and sisters saving lives on a daily basis. It also shows how certain bonds are meant to be broken. Which are your favorite relationships and which ones do you not like? Here’s what we think: Here are the best & worst relationships in Chicago Fire, ranked.

Joe/Chole

It’s been a joy to watch this relationship blossom. Joe and Chloe began innocently enough but grew into something special. The reason for their low ranking is their lack of screentime as a couple throughout the seasons. what makes chole so good for joe is it was she who brought Cruz out of his shell. Even after the loss of Otis, Chole stood by Joe’s side when he was at his lowest.

Now married with a newborn baby, it will be fun to see how Joe juggles being a firefighter, a husband, and a father. The two of them are good together and perfect for each other.

Matt/Sylvie

The new relationship on Chicago Fire and also one that took too long to progress. Matt and Sylvie are like peanut butter and jelly. You can eat them separately but together, they’re the perfect sandwich. They both love with their hearts on their sleeves and because of that have been taken advantage of.

But here they are now, in a relationship. While it may be long-distance, they must find a way to make it work. I know the ranking is low but being a new relationship is the reason for this. They never had time to grow.

Christopher/Cindy

House 51 is all about family. But there is one union on the show that sets the standard in relationships and that is the marriage between Christopher Herrmann and his wife Cindy. Herrmann is a fan favorite with his wisecracks but he’s a family man to the core of his existence.

With 5 kids in the house, there is always something going on in the Herrmann household. When the men and women at the station need advice, it’s Christopher or Cindy offering their services. As with the other two relationships above them, the issue is their lack of screentime that has them ranked so low.

Matt/ Gabby

Matt and Gabby was the relationship many wanted to happen since the premiere episode of Chicago Fire. While Matt was still with Hallie, fans were rooting for the popular firefighter and paramedic to get together. But once they did, everything began to unravel. Love was present but there was also a ton of toxic activity.

From dating to marriage to heartbroken parents, the union just seemed doomed from the start. In the end, Gabby became a bit selfish and left Matt wondering where it all went wrong. Despite their setbacks, fans still held on for a possible reunion only to be crushed more than once.

Severide/Shay

Having a best friend of the opposite sex has its advantages. For Severide and Shay, they made it work in ways that had viewers thinking, which isn’t a bad idea. There has not been a better pairing on Chicago Fire since Shay’s death.

Both were strong-willed and that’s where their disputes would stem from. Shay never backed down from Kelly no matter the issue. Her death sent him into a dark place and deep down, he’s still trying to navigate through that abyss. They put their life on the line daily but they never compromised their love for one another. True friendship.

Severide/Stella

Watching these two go through their ups and downs is the same thing we had to endure with Matt and Gabby. Are they right for one another? In the beginning that was a question that lingered on the minds of many fans. But as it turns out, Severide and Stella can go the distance. Kelly is hardheaded and still has some trust issues regarding women. Stella has had to deal with her own personal demons before heading back to Severide.

With a possible wedding upcoming, there is no doubt these two have made it through the tough times and have proven to have each other’s backs.

Joe/Otis

Otis and Cruz were nothing but the younger versions of Herrmann and Mouch. If you want instant laughs, watch these two in action. It also helped that they were roommates. Otis had insane ideas and Cruz usually went along. Cruz is no stranger to crazy thoughts himself, which made their pairing so dynamic.

We can probably count on two fingers the number of disagreements they’ve had over the years and that’s a testament to their bond. Otis’ death shook House 51 to its core but the lasting effect t had on Cruz was proof of their bond.

Christopher/Mouch

The two amigos. Maybe it’s their age and experience. But for whatever reason, they share a special connection. When Herrmann does something wild, it’s normally Mouch who has to talk him out of it or the one who has to deal with the consequences. To watch the two of them go at it is outright hilarious.

Despite many disagreements, they have each other’s backs at all times. There’s a man code that must be followed and Herrmann and Mouch are two of the best when it comes to love and respect. Would love to see more of Cindy and Trudy as the four friends hang out more just to get a vibe of how much fun that foursome would be.
