Chicago Fire: The Ghost Of Gabby Makes No Sense
It’s okay to have feelings for a past love. For Matt Casey and Gabby Dawson, they were the face of the show in terms of romance. It was intense with miscarriages, death, foster kids, and then the ultimate betrayal. But time is supposed to heal all wounds but for some reason, the writers of Chicago Fire have not been able to move on.
With a new romance brewing between Matt and Sylvie Brett, the question was asked what would Matt do if Gabby were to come back and ask him to leave with her? Matt froze and that was all Brett needed to see and hear.
Sylvie asked Matt to leave and from that moment, the writers appear to be playing a game of cat and mouse. But do we really need that? This is a romance fans have been pushing for since last season and maybe even longer if we’re being truthful. They seem good together but why keep bringing the Gabby situation up?

Would Matt leave with her? No. There was nothing for him to think about and did the writers forget that they touched on this already in the past? Gabby has asked Matt not once but twice if he would leave and each time he said no. So why keep poking the bear with something that was already addressed?
If the goal is pairing these two characters together but with a few stumbling blocks along the way, then please make it something more viable like a tragic death or a CFD guideline rule, not Gabby.
That relationship has sailed. Matt has had romantic feelings for another woman before and Sylvie was set to be married to the Chaplin. And yet, it’s the ghost of Gabby who has not been a regular on Chicago Fire for two seasons that’s holding this new romance up.
It’s a waste of time and Chicago Fire is better than this. Maybe they won’t work. Maybe Matt and Brett are not meant to be. But please, for the love of God and their storyline, make it more believable. All Matt had to do in that moment was tell Brett that Gabby offered that TWICE and each time, he turned her down.
And to be fair to Matt, why not have him question her about the Chaplin and what would happen if he were to return? Just a major error by the writers. Gabby is gone, it’s time to move on.
