Chris Godwin and The Washington Redskins May Be a Perfect Match

Chris Godwin

The wide receiver free agency class of 2021 will be filled with players who may have missed their window, journeymen, and those still able to reach their ceiling. One of the receivers will be Chris Godwin. By then, he will be entering his fifth year in the NFL and will be a hot commodity on the market.

In his first three seasons, Godwin has caught 179 passes for 2,700 yards and 17 touchdowns with an average of 15.1 yards per catch,. While his numbers may seem relatively low for a star receiver, keep in mind that he plays alongside Mike Evans and has only started 21 of the 46 career games he’s played in.

The money will be a huge factor in 2010. According to Spotrac, Godwin has a market value of $16.8 million. That will place him in the elite class of receivers.

The Washington Redskins will enter the 2020 season with question marks almost everywhere. Armed with a new coach, an aging and oft-injured ground game, a QB still trying to find his way, and a core of receivers looking for an identity, the Redskins need help. So why not roll the dice on a young Chris Godwin in 2021?

In 2019, the Redskins’ offense finished the season ranked 28th in pass attempts and 32nd in passing yards. The leading receiver for the Skins was Terry McLaurin with 58 receptions for 919 yards.

The Redskins will have to figure out if Dwayne Haskins is their quarterback of the future or just a player holding the position until they get the one they want. But if he’s still under center by the time the 2021 season rolls around, then it would be a wise decision to provide him with adequate weapons to further his journey.

The Redskins, with this move in 2021, could set themselves u for a great run in the NFC East. The Philadelphia Eagles will need to retool their core. The New York Giants will look to the Draft or free agency to find suitable receivers and the salad Cowboys well have to take a hard look t their back account to maintain theirs.

By adding Chris Godwin, the Redskins could begin to build in a way that could have them in contention within the next two years. It all starts with the development of QB Haskins. If he regresses in 2020, then the ‘Skins would need to make a major move there. However, if Haskins can find a groove, then adding Godwin, and hopefully the health of Guice will be enough to set a new foundation.

Godwin will be a great addition as both possession and “Go Route” receiver.
