Cleveland Browns Are Thinking About Drafting Two Quarterbacks In 2018 NFL Draft
The Cleveland Browns just can’t stay out of the limelight long enough to build themselves a contender. According to Timothy Rapp of Bleacher Report, the Cleveland Browns have considered drafting not one, but two quarterbacks with their first two picks in the 2018 NFL Draft.
For anyone living under a tree, the Browns have the No.1 and No. 4 picks in the draft. With early reports that they will select either Sam Darnold with the top choice then hope the New York Giants and New York Jets both pass on Saquon Barkley in which they could select him with the fourth overall pick. Or, the Browns could draft Barkley first then Darnold at No. 4. So many options for a team that went 0-16 in 2017 and 1-15 in 2016.
This was the offseason where the Browns were to make themselves relevant again in the eyes of the NFL and their fans. But now, with this news coming to light, it begs the question of, what the hell are they doing? Kevin Clark of The Ringer said he asked a few members of the Cleveland Browns organization if they would go against the norm and draft two quarterbacks in the first round.
The answer is yes. The people I asked have thought about it, discussed it and investigated it,” Clark wrote. “This is not to say it will happen, but the Browns have considered it. In fact, one person I spoke with could immediately rattle off every previous instance of teams drafting two passers high because he’d done the prep work on the idea.
What Are The Cleveland Browns Thinking
The two the Browns could target is Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield, but why? With the Browns making a trade for Tyrod Taylor this offseason and Hue Jackson giving him the go-ahead as the starter, why would the Cleveland Browns set their team back a few years when there are other holes to fill?
Moves like this are the reasons people believe the Browns will continue to suffer. It’s time they started to think like an NFL team on the rise and put their best foot forward. Maybe the Browns fear they could end up drafting the wrong guy to lead their team, it happens. But using two of the top four picks to draft the same position when you already have a starter, well, only the Browns would think of something like this.
