Cleveland Browns: Baker Mayfield Needs To Be More Than Just Talk
The Cleveland Browns aren’t anywhere near a Super Bowl. That’s the honest truth. Because of this, everyone needs to dial down their excitement just a bit. This includes franchise QB, Baker Mayfield.
There aren’t many QB’s in the NFL with the charisma of Baker Mayfield. He’s a special talent in the league. However, the second-year star out of Oklahoma has had his issues with the media.
Whether it be from Collin Cowherd, who routinely picks apart Mayfield, or comments of his doing (Duke Johnson, Daniel Jones), Baker doesn’t know how to keep himself away from the distractions. A shock-jock like Cowherd is easily avoidable. He can’t respond to his criticism. And as for the comments of other players, just avoid it.
A lot of professional athletes have talked a big talk. Yet, very few can actually back it up. Baker can’t be one of those. He’s a leader on the field. He’ll need to prove that on game days, as the talking won’t get the Browns to the playoffs.
Mayfield is a heck of a QB. We saw how good he can be during his rookie year. For a team like Cleveland, who have long clamored for a franchise signal-caller, this is the best thing for them. A lot of Browns fans will turn a blind eye to the antics of Baker Mayfield. Of course, if he wasn’t their QB a lot of them would be thankful he wasn’t a Brown.
With that being said, there should be no Browns fan who’s upset with Baker Mayfield as the franchise QB. It’s about time the city had an icon not named LeBron James. Whether he’s a bit arrogant or cocky, Baker is the QB for the Browns. And every fan in Cleveland should be grateful for that.
