Cleveland Browns: The Motto For 2018 Season Has To Be “Win This For The Jackson Family”

The Cleveland Browns have endured enough heartache since their last playoff appearance in 2002. Over that time, there have been countless head coaches, non-important players and a movement so troubled, that fans have wondered if the Browns can compete with college teams. But one thing has remained a constant, the love of their fans.

This season, the Browns are on a mission to erase the dark cloud that has placed a shadow over the franchise the last two seasons. One win in two years would be enough to get any coach fired but somehow, Hue Jackson still has a job.

Despite that horrific record, the Cleveland Browns will enter the 2018 season with plenty of pride and hope. Their offseason additions have placed them in the playoff discussion even with Hue Jackson leading the way. But can they do it? Yes, I believe so and that may be due to personal tragedies that have struck the Jackson’s this offseason.

During the first episode of Hard Knocks, we learned that Hue Jackson lost his mother. To make matters worse, he also lost his brother just a few weeks earlier. Death is a part of life that we all have come to understand, but does that mean we have to accept the loss? As we watched Jackson deal with the news, what was not mentioned in the voice-overs by the commentator, was how Jackson stayed committed to the growth of his team during those hardships.

Despite his grief, Hue Jackson was still seen on the field barking orders, giving hugs and handshakes, offering congratulations to players for the hard work, and it was at that moment, that I knew the Cleveland Browns were destined for something great this season.

Every team, no matter what the situation needs something to lean on. For the Eagles last season during their Super Bowl run, it was the motto of the underdog. For the Patriots, it has always been the “us against them”. However, the Browns have been missing theirs. It’s tough to put that on a tragedy, but if they really want to show John Dorsey and the rest of the Browns’ organization they really have their coach’s back despite his record, this is the season to do so.

Every team needs a rallying cry and the Browns may have found theirs. “Win this for the Jackson Family” should be the motto for the 2018 Cleveland Browns.
