Cleveland Browns: With Julius Thomas, Browns Would Have Best Offense In AFC North

The Cleveland Browns were movers this offseason with deals for Tyrod Taylor, Carlos Hyde, and Jarvis Landry. Then came the 2018 NFL Draft and the Browns made good selections but not great. While taking Baker Mayfield is more of a 2019 move, they fumbled the ball with the No. 4 pick. Instead of going Bradley Chubb, they decided to address the cornerback situation with Denzel Ward. Now, what the Browns need most is a pass-catching TE to even out the offense. This is where signing Julius Thomas will fill that need.

In 2017, the Browns TE core was led by David Njoku who caught 32 passes for 386 yards and four touchdowns and Seth Devalve who finished with 33 catches for 395 yards and one touchdown. Together, they make a good pair but what the Browns need is that one player who can do the job of two.

While Thomas has had his share of failures after leaving the Denver Broncos, he’s not had a stable QB since Peyton Manning. His time spent with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins were marred by inconsistency at the QB position. But what happens if Thomas is linked with a veteran like Taylor or an accurate rookie like Mayfield?

The Jags, nor the Dolphins will be as talented as the Cleveland Browns will be with their trio of running backs plus Landry and Josh Gordon on the outside. If Julius Thomas can get his mojo back, the Browns would easily be the best offensive team in the AFC North.

Yes, the Pittsburgh Steelers still have Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, and Le’Veon Bell but other than that– nothing. The Cincinnati Bengals are led by A.J. Green and a bunch of “who is that” players and the Baltimore Ravens are just barely getting by with what they have. That leaves the Browns on the come up and with their new additions, they may already be the better team in the division. All that’s missing from them is chemistry.

The Browns Will Be Explosive With Julius Thomas

Think about it. In 2017, the Steelers ranked 3rd in NFL with 377.9 yards per game. The Bengals ranked 32nd with 280.5, and the Ravens ranked 27th with 305.4. Although the Browns only won one game, they finished the season ranked 24th with 308.9. What happens if they get a QB who can make the throws and receivers who can catch? This is a totally different Browns’ offense we will see in 2018.

By adding a player like Julius Thomas who is a veteran, has a Super Bowl ring and a chip on his shoulder the size of a mountain, the Browns will be the best in the division. Naysayers can smirk all they want, but numbers don’t lie.
