Cleveland Cavaliers: Addition of Kyle Korver will send Cavs to third straight NBA Finals

If the NBA has taught us anything over the years it’s that, it’s the small under the radar deals that makes the difference. When the Cleveland Cavaliers traded for Kevin Love it was almost a sure thing they would make it to the NBA Finals that year. Well, they did but Love was not available. Last year they made a small deal that netted them Channing Frye and without Frye filling in for an injured Love, the Cavs would not have won or even made the Finals.

Well, the Cavs have just made another deal that many will push under the bus. The Atlanta Hawks will send sharp-shooting SG/SF, Kyle Korver to the Cavs in a move that makes them as equally dangerous as the team that stormed back from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors.

Korver may be one-dimensional, but he’s the best in the league at what he does. Catch and shoot, catch and shoot. It’s repetitive but when you are a career 43 percent three-point shooter, that’s forgiven. With J.R.Smith out for three months, the Cavs were in need of replacement. Now, Korver is not as athletic as Smith but what he does provide is great leadership, and the Steve Kerr, John Paxson option.

Micheal Jordan should know all to well what those two players did for his legacy. LeBron James still plays above the rim but as the Warriors and Cavs proved last season in their run to the Finals is that the game can still be won or lost from the three-point line. Korver gives the Cavs the edge they needed to thwart off any competition that may come from the East. And while Smith is out, remember, he is set to return this season.

Korver may be an afterthought to many NBA fans but the Cavs understand how important it is not to overlook the small moves during a title run.
