Cleveland Cavaliers: Dylan Windler Is Key For The Future
The Cleveland Cavaliers are going to shoot the ball a lot. John Beilein, the former University of Michigan coach, has a knack for offense. His biggest weapon this season might be the team’s second first round pick, Dylan Windler. Here’s a player that’s not afraid to shoot the ball. And his impact on the team will be felt sooner rather than later.
As it stands now, Windler is situated second on the depth chart at the SF position. He’s playing behind fan favorite, Cedi Osman. However, the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to move on from some of their talent. Players such as Jordan Clakrson and Brandon Knight are players who’ve been mentioned to be on the chopping block.
If, and when, these two get moved (or leave in free agency at the end of the year), Windler will be the main beneficiary. He’ll step into the role of the team’s sixth man. With Darius Garland, Colin Sexton, and Osman making up the core at the PG, SG, and SF, Windler can carve out a significant role behind them.
The Cavaliers, who also acquired shooter Kevin Porter Jr. in the 2019 NBA Draft, have high faith in Windler. He was one of college basketball’s best shooters for the 2018-19 season. There’s little doubt the organization want him to be the teams sharpshooter, a cornerstone of the franchise.
Windler had an up and down Summer League. His best game came in the Salt Lake Summer League where he scored 19 points, going 8-14 from the field. This led Beilein to make the following remarks about the first rounder, as he told to Cleveland.com
“He’s one of those components you need to have to make our other guys better. He’s going to make everybody better with the Cavaliers, just because the game is simple. He can really shoot the ball and he’s a very efficient player.”
Windler has full confidence from his coach. It appears he’ll have the green light to shoot the 3-pointer. During his senior season, Winder shot .429 from 3-point range. He made 3 per game. Whether or not he has that success in the NBA remains to be seen, but, he’s got the confidence to do so.
The Cleveland Cavaliers hit it big by getting Dylan Windler. He was one of the best shooters in the 2019 Draft. The Cavs, who want to be known as a shooting team, have a pure shooter on the roster in Windler. He’ll be a major player for Cleveland as they look to rebuild for the future.
