The Cleveland Cavaliers don’t need Zion Williamson. It’s a crazy hot take. He’s not anywhere close to a sure thing. If you’re the Cavs, just go for best available. This means drafting the best Point Guard in the draft, Ja Morant.

The Cavaliers did just draft Colin Sexton as PG of the future. Morant is a special talent. It’s going to be hard for any team to let him slip away. The Cavs can’t be the team who does this. They must pounce on the best player in the draft.

Sexton has shown a decent skill set thus far. He’s far from an NBA superstar. There seems to be a lack of grasping the PG position. Sexton is more concerned with his shot than setting up teammates. Of course, that’s going to get better with time, but, can you pass up Morant with the hope Sexton improves? The answer is simple. You can’t.

Morant has put up some impressive numbers this season at Murray State. He’s averaging 23.3 points per game, shoots. 532 from the field, grabs 6.8 rebounds, and dishes out 9.9 assists. Talk about the full package. Here’s a player that could be the next Russell Westbrook. There’s no way the Cavs pass on this.

Make the case for Sexton all you want, he’s not the type of player Ja Morant is. You could say, “Zion is the best player in the draft. He’s the consensus number 1 pick.” That’s not necessarily true. It’s obvious the Cavs need help in the frontcourt. That’s not a good enough reason for the Cavaliers to say no on Morant.

The team isn’t going to be a contender in one off-season. You trade guys like Love and Thompson, acquire picks and get your big men that way. You won’t find a player as dominant as Zion, but, there are players in this draft that can be serious factors for you in years to come.

Do you want to build a contender? Draft Morant.
Let Sexton figure himself out. If all else fails, let him play SG. And if that doesn’t succeed, who cares? You’ve got a superstar PG with Ja Morant. It’s not the sexy move for the Cavs. Nobody will like it at first. When the Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the league’s best teams, they’ll have Ja Morant on the roster.
