Cleveland Cavaliers Rumors: Cavs Could Be Interested in Aaron Gordon
The Cleveland Cavaliers must get ready to deal with the possibility that LeBron James will leave at the end of this season. If so, the Cavaliers are in a good position to move forward unlike the last time. According to Orestis Rantis of King James Gospel, the Cavaliers could be interested in Aaron Gordon of the Orland Magic.
With the uncertainty of James staying or going, the Cavaliers must continue to build no matter what he decides. The 2018 NBA trade deadline offered the Cavaliers a new outlook with an influx of young talents such as Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., and Rodney Hood. While the Cavaliers still have veterans like Kevin Love, J.R. Smith, and Tristan Thompson at their disposal, adding a highly-energetic Gordon will be great for the future.
Aaron Gordon Could Be The Next Member Of The Cavaliers
On the season, Gordon is averaging 18.3 points and 8.4 rebounds while shooting 44 percent from the floor. Even with Nance at the power forward position and cheaper, the Cavaliers would be foolish to ignore the talented Gordon. If LeBron does indeed bolt after the season, the Cavaliers can switch Nance to small forward and start Gordon next to Love in the frontcourt.
To add more intrigue to the Cavaliers’ suddenly important offseason is that they will also get the luxury of the Brooklyn Nets’ 2018 first-round pick. That pick, coupled with Gordon, Clarkson, Nance, Hood, and Love, should have the Cavaliers competitive in the Eastern Conference for the foreseeable future.
The one issue with Gordon is that the Magic can sign him to a Qualifying Offer ($7.2 million) which binds him to the Magic. However, the Cavaliers can sign him to an offer-sheet in which the Magic can match. Now, with the Magic in clear rebuild mode, will they be willing to pay Gordon a large sum of money to keep losing when they have other pressing needs?
If LeBron decides to leave, all is not lost in Cleveland. Help could be on the way with the addition of Aaron Gordon.
