Cleveland Cavaliers: Trading Kevin Love Would Be A Foolish Move

The Cleveland Cavaliers are preparing for the next phase just in case LeBron James decides to part with the organization, yet again. With LeBron’s possible departure, NBA Rumors have begun that the Cavs should do a complete rebuild while also trading away Kevin Love. Seems like a good thing to say until Dan Gilbert remembers what happened the last time James left.

Trading Love should not be an option unless the Cleveland Cavaliers are getting back one huge haul. With the decrease in his production and his penchant for disappearing in crucial games, that may be a tall order for the Cavs. But fear not, keeping Love is the Cavs best option.

What’s often forgotten about Kevin Love is that he was once regarded as the best power forward in the NBA before he teamed with James. The same was said about Chris Bosh. Both players surrendered numbers for team glory, but it’s safe to say that Love was way ahead of where Bosh ever would be in terms of production.

While with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Love averaged 19.2 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while shooting 53 percent from the floor. In his four seasons with the Cavs, Love averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds, 2.1 assists and shot 45 percent from the floor. While the numbers are not that far off, his usage rate is. Give Love those touches he once had in Minnesota, and Cavaliers’ fans now have their new cornerstone.

What Should The Cleveland Cavaliers Do With Kevin Love?

Here’s another factor for the Cleveland Cavaliers to consider. Love is only 29-years old. While his time in the NBA would suggest he’s been around longer, Love still has plenty of gas left in the tank. The Cavs also are loaded with plenty of options to build around Love. The team will be younger with Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr, and they still have the No. 8 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. While losing LeBron will be a major blow, Love has been in this position before during his career.

All the Cavs will need to do is find a PG capable of handling the load and pray that Tristan Thompson can get is head out his a** and get back to playing solid basketball. So while Cavs’ fans are pacing, wondering what James will do, they can take solace in the fact that they may already have their next face of the franchise in Love.
