Coffee Wars: The Search for the Perfect Cup – Brewers

There’s nothing more important to the early bird, than the cup of coffee that awaits. Cavemen Radio Show has been searching out the perfect cup for all the java drinkers out there who want something different out of the morning routine. Sure, Folgers might be the best part of waking up, but like our usually routines we occasionally like something out of the ordinary.

There’s plenty of brands out there that would have you believe they have the best cup of joe in town. But the one thing we’ve realized, no matter how good it is, it can always be better depending on how you brew your coffee. A good majority of coffee drinkers use the traditional brewer to make their morning cup. However, you might be surprised to know its not always the best way. There’s plenty of ways to enhance your coffee, but we’re only going to cover the four we’ve tried so far.

  • Traditional Coffee Brewer – Set and forget.

If you’re looking for the easiest coffee to make, then this device you see in the majority of homes is perfect for your morning routine. You can wake up and make your pot daily, or set it to start brewing on a timer. Requiring the least amount of work. A traditional brewer is the way to go. Especially if you need to run out the door last minute and drop it in your thermos along the way. It’s as easy as measuring the grounds and making sure there’s water. Unless of course, you forget to hit the start button in your morning zombie haze.

Cavemen Rating:

  • Single Serve/Keurig

Simple, fast, and cost efficient. It’s all the things you’re looking for in a grab-and-go world. The k-cup or Keurig maker is perfect for those looking for a single serving yet fast cup of coffee. Pods will be the death of you, but if you have family members who know you have a Keurig, then put them on your Christmas list. Trust us, you can never have enough pods when you need them. Just as easy as the traditional brewer, but you don’t have make a whole pot. The k-cups come in a variety of flavors for a more individualized personal cup off coffee. Great for solo enjoyment, terrible when a second person needs coffee on the go.

  • Pour Over Coffee

One of the most time consuming ways to make coffee, but one of the better tasting ways. Unlike traditional brewing, pour over coffee doesn’t just drip right through part of the coffee beans and into the pot. Instead it allows you to control the amount of water added to the coffee to perfect your own strength and flavor. It won’t be your every day cup before work, but pour over coffee is perfect for the weekend breakfasts at home.

Cavemen Rating:

  • French Press

While its not as quick as the other forms of brewing , the French Press is hands down the best tasting. Just add the beans to the pot, add hot water from boiling or even a quick microwaved cup, and let sit. It’s as simple as that and takes less than 5 minutes. The tricky part of it is making sure to get all the grounds even beneath the plunger in order to not get a mouth full in your cup. Plus it can be made anywhere as long as you have access to hot water.

Cavemen Rating:

Yes, it does really make that much of a difference how your brew your java. Don’t believe us? See for yourself. While a good Keurig will cost you up to 80-100 bucks, you can easily get a pour over coffee pot, or a French Press for less than 20 dollars. Sure, most of you might not care as long as the caffeine gets in your system, but if you’re a picky coffee drinker like us, step outside the box and give one of these other brewers a try.
