Comedy Legends: Greatest Comedic Actors Of All Time – Pt 3 Jim Carrey

Comedy Legend Jim Carrey

It’s hard to imagine a world with a countdown of the best comedic actors of all time, and not mention Jim Carrey’s name. Not only has he put out some classic pieces of comedic gold, but he’s also one of the more underrated actors in Hollywood.

Everyone knows he’s great in his goofy and a bit over-the-top style of acting. He’s what you get if an animated character was brought to life. Carrey has been one of the funniest actors in family-friendly movies for years often bringing characters to life with an overwhelming energy of fun. However, there’s more to him than just his comedy roles and he doesn’t get enough credit for it.

While it’s not where his career started, many people remember Jim Carrey from the early 90’s on In Living Color. Characters like Fire Marshall Bill and Vera De Milo and the antics that went into them would be what lead him to his bigger break. He’d go on to use the acting style to crank out family-friendly comedies that would go on to be favorites still today. With some of the top quotable moments his success would come from movies such as Liar Liar, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb & Dumber.

Jim Carrey had a way with humor that seemed to be too much for some, but was just the right amount of zany that would land him big character roles as well. He’d play the Grinch in the live-action remake. There was also Doctor Robotnik in fan-favorite Sonic The Hedgehog. And we can’t forget Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. Despite all those goofy roles and family-friendly appeal, there’s more to Jim Carrey than just being goofy.

While he rarely was cast in roles outside his typical typecast of humor, there’s a side of Jim Carrey that audiences saw more of. As an actor he didn’t get a chance to show off his ability as much as he should’ve. Granted it was probably because directors in Hollywood wanted the funnier version of himself, but there’s just as much emotion in some of his not so animated roles.

Take movies like The Number 23, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Truman Show, or The Majestic. These movies didn’t require him to get a laugh every so many minutes and let him spread his wings as an actor a bit more. Say what you will about the movies, but Carrey was exceptional in all of them. Each of these movies proved there was more to his carreer than just the funny man. As a comedic actor he might be one of the best. However, as an actor overall he’s not given enough credit.
