Coronavirus Has Made Social Media The Place To Be
Since the Coronavirus hit, residents all over the globe find themselves not only in a state of quarantine but self-reflections as well. With the world mostly in lockdown, Social Media has been our saving grace. Just two months ago, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tik Tok has been a way of passing time. But now its become so much more.
Normally, Social Media has been the place to connect or reconnect with family and friends. However, this lockdown has given Social Media the power to be the one thing this has kept people sane. While there could be a laughing moment here, let’s consider a few facts that prove why Facebook and the others have saved lives.
Not many people still watch the news or unfold newspapers. Instead, over the last few weeks, I’ve seen people on Social Media asking others for weather updates, updates on school closings and the places that are low on essential supplies for the house.

But what has made social media so important has what has always been there. It’s the connection.
With no sports, fans have hit Twitter and Facebook sharing memories of their favorite players, teams and best memories throughout the years. For Movie and TV show buffs, it’s been the place to go to for recommendations. What are the best shows to watch, what movies are trending on Netflix or Firestick? These days, everyone is a critic and we all have the right to be.
Instagram is epic for sharing pictures but during the quarantine, it has become the top spot for Live Shows. Liking and commenting on pics are still the norm but rappers and producers have used Instagram Live to give fans free entertainment. No more concerts, this has been the age of live contest. Producers and DJs have used their IG accounts to set up battles between one anther and DJs have used their account to showcase their skills and give fans a party.
Then you have Tik Tok who may have shined the brightest during this pandemic.
Tik Tok was viewed as a place where the younger generation went to share funny videos, compete in challenges, and share laughter. But now, it’s become the entertainment mecca of all Social Media platforms. Celebrities have used this platform to connect with fans while giving us an inside glimpse of their home life.
When things get back to normal, Social Media will go back to what it was. A place for people to voice their opinions on sports, politics, and just life in general. But for now, it has been a safe haven of sorts for millions of people every day.
