Could Expansion Be In The Future For Knotts Berry Farm?
Knotts Berry Farm might be expanding in the near future. Rumors have suggested new rides could be going into the park. The area being mentioned is near Ghost Town in a section currently occupied by backstage storage. What are the chances we see a new coaster?
Screamscape reported that a new coaster might be what’s in store for the park. This area of land can’t be too big. If (that’s a big if) there is enough available land, then something of significance could make its way to Knotts.
Knotts Berry Farm has built a lot of new attractions for the park over recent years. Hangtime, Voyage to the Iron Reef, a Calico River Rapids re-theme, just to name a few. An expansion of the park hasn’t happened in quite a few years. With the crowds being the way they are, expansion is definitely needed.
To settle the crowds, what kind of coaster can the park build? Don’t expect anything too big. This isn’t going to be a hyper-coaster. However, a new coaster shouldn’t
be too small. But, with the size of the newly available land, it might be.
If the coaster is indeed compact, don’t expect anything Gerstaluer. KBF just worked with them on Hangtime. Having two smaller Gerstlauer coasters in the park might seem like overkill. It’s about a 99% chance a new coaster isn’t from them.
There’s the possibility of an RMC single-rail, but, with Railblazer being at California Great America, it’s tough to fathom two single-rail coasters so close to each other. However, if the new coaster is a T-Rex model and not a Raptor, that’s a different story. Still, we don’t have an approximate size of the land they’ll be using.
We’ve also heard a few flat rides could be going in the expansion as well. Once again, Screamscape came through, predicting a Gerstlauer Sky Roller. A model similar to this can be found at Mall of America.
It’s expected the new area will be themed. If it’s in the Ghost Town land, you’d be quite safe in assuming it’ll be western themed. That’s not a guarantee, as Knotts could theme it to something else entirely.
It’ll be interesting to see what Knotts comes up with. They’ve got the money to do something big, but on a smaller scale. Without knowing how much land the park intends to use of the available land, it’s tough to gauge what Knotts Berry Farm has in mind.
