Does the Creed 2 Trailer Prove the Franchise Still Has It?

Creed 2

When it was announced that Creed would be the spinoff from the original Rocky franchise, I had my doubts. Growing up loving (most of) the Rocky films it was going to be an uphill battle for the next generation to pull me in. Shockingly enough, Creed was one of the more underrated movies I’d watched in 2015. With remakes and sequels becoming more and more popular, it was only a matter of time before this remake got its own sequel. Especially after Michael B. Jordan appeared in one of Marvel’s biggest films Black Panther.

From IMDB.com

Under the tutelage of Rocky Balboa, newly crowned light heavyweight champion Adonis Creed faces off against Viktor Drago, the son of Ivan Drago.

Creed offers up a chance to pass the torch to the next generation in the franchise instead of beating a dead horse in the franchise. One of the real-life situations that almost needs to play out on the big screen is how traditional boxing has been losing it’s footing to MMA/UFC. No, I don’t want to see a Mayweather/McGregor style fight in Creed 3, but it would make an amazing story to see Adonis finally break out of his father’s shadow and feel it all slipping away in at the risk of fading into obscurity. For him to overcome and break the slumping sport bringing it back into the spotlight would show just as much triumph as beating a rivaled opponent.

With original cast members Sylvester Stallone, Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson returning for the sequel, everything we loved about the first should translate into the second. Throw in one of the most intimidating faces in sports movie history Ivan Drago, played by Dolph Lundgren and his offspring and this might have the making of an all-time fan favorite. November 21st seems so far away. Hopefully, this sequel will be worth the wait! How excited are you for the latest in the Rocky franchise? Click the stars below to vote![CMRickTwitter]  on Twitter.
