Dallas Cowboys Don’t Need To Rush Dak Prescott Back

Dallas Cowboys QBs

Another year goes by and the Dallas Cowboys are facing a usual struggle. Dak Prescott goes down with an injury and the team immediately starts burning the midnight oil on how soon they can get him back on the field. In years past, that made a lot more sense than it does in 2022. Cooper Rush has been holding it down for the Cowboys and there are more wins in the win column than losses in the loss column. Naturally, teams want their starting quarterback to return and lead the team as quickly as possible. However, if the Cowboys want to make a run, there’s plenty of reason to let Dak Prescott recover fully.

The Cowboys are coming down the tougher part of their schedule. They’re facing the Rams, the Eagles, Lions, Bears, and Packers in their next 5 games. You might argue that the Lions, Bears, and Rams are beatable as the Lions, the Bears are 2-2, and the Rams aren’t their Super Bowl selves. Giving respect to the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles or the always dangerous Aaron Rodgers and the Packers they’d be 6-4 if those games played out as expected. However, the Lions are the highest-scoring team in the league right now. The Bears are struggling. The Rams can easily flip a switch and get back to being a top team in the league. There are many reasons for Dallas to get Dak back as quickly as possible.

While his job may not be in danger to Cooper Rush, the backup quarterback is playing well enough to keep them winning. Why would you rush your quarterback with a history of injuries back onto the field? Cowboys fans might miss the spark he gives on offense, but the team is still winning without him. Why not keep your star QB in the wings and let him heal not just his current injury, but any ailing ones as well? Let Cooper Rush take the reigns and play right past the Vikings if you can. After the Vikings, the Cowboys will play on a short week for Thanksgiving and there’s no need to push an injury-prone QB into it with a 4 day’s rest.

Granted the Dallas Cowboys are paying Dak Prescott a hell of a lot of money so they don’t want him on the sideline. But, truth be told, that team will make more than enough money back if the Cowboys can stay healthy and make a deep playoff run. If they can push Cooper Rush down the stretch and let Dak Prescott rest, then while the rest of the league is slowing down and coming up on their injury bugs, the Cowboys will have one of their best weapons on a fresh set of legs.

Dallas has no need to rush Dak Prescott back so long as Cooper Rush is winning football games. It might not be the most popular play with Cowboys fans, but winning changes everything, and a fresh QB late in the year goes a long way towards winning. If I’m the Dallas Cowboys, I ride this wave until it crashes.
