Dallas Cowboys: Is Ndamukong Suh A Possibility?

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys will enter free agency looking to sure up any holes on both sides of the ball. While Dak Prescott is a top priority, what’s next for the Cowboys? The defense is in dire need of pieces and the offense will look to retain Randall Cobb and Amari Cooper. For a team that had the NFC East Division won, then let it slip through their fingers, this is an important offseason.

The Cowboys finished the year ranked first in yards gained and ninth in yards allowed. But still, with a new coach on the way, Jerry Jones must give him some weapons to work with. But what about the defensive side of the ball? The Cowboys faltered down the stretch mainly because of the defensive effort. If they plug the holes, the Cowboys can get back to their winning ways.

One of the players they should have on their radar is Ndamukong Shu. Yes, the same player who has been labeled “dirty” most of his career and the same players who has done nothing but produce for each team he has been a member of. The Cowboys must instill a bit of nasty on their D-line and who better to do that?
One team still has the inside track on Suh and that is the Tampa Bay buccaneers. According to The Pewter Plank, the Bucs may want to let him walk depending on the money.
The front-office needs to look at that salary cap space and make decisions based on needs this year and for the future. Perhaps with the $92 million in cap space, the organization could afford to bring Suh back for another season on a one-year deal, but that also remains to be seen depending on how much shopping Tampa Bay does in free agency.
This may not be a huge area of concern for the Dallas Cowboys. However, stopping the run should be a priority. Last season, the Cowboys ranked 11th in rushing yards allowed. In a division where the ground game is used heavy, shoring up that front line could pay dividends down the road. One name, in particular, comes to mind when rush defense is mentioned–Ndamukong Suh.

The surprising thing is, the Cowboys may be able to get Suh on the cheap. He will enter the season at 33-years old and has already made a ton of money. For Suh, it’s all about winning now. In 2019, while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers he registered 41 tackles, 14 QB hits, and two sacks. While Suh’s number will never show upon on the stat sheets as a real contributor, it’s the amount of attention the offensive line has to pay him that makes the huge difference.
