Dallas Cowboys: Will Dak End Up Being the Next Tony Romo?
When it comes to the Dallas Cowboys, they’ve had a long history of great quarterbacks. However, it has been quite some time since they’ve had one take them to the Super Bowl. Troy Aikman accomplished that feat in the ’90s and it hasn’t been replicated since. Fast forward a few years down the road and Tony Romo looked like the quarterback who can get the Cowboys to the big dance.
Even with his talent, it seemed like it just wasn’t enough to get them into the championship game. Granted the NFC has had plenty of quarterbacks keeping good QBs from the big game, but Dallas has had all the talent in the world and you’d expect them to make it. For one reason or another, Romo just couldn’t fire on all cylinders and get the job done in the postseason. He’d show up big all year long but would fall just short when it mattered.

Facing the defending Super Bowl champs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dak Prescott finished the game statistically a winner. Too bad he and the Cowboys walked away with a tick in the L column. Another big game, against a future Hall of Fame QB, and Dallas couldn’t get the job done. Now you have to wonder if Prescott will be the next Tony Romo.
So much of an NFL offense falls on the quarterback. That’s the direction people go when the finger-pointing starts. But last night proved it. Just like Tony Romo, no matter how good you play the game, your supporting cast just can’t get it done. The Cowboys weren’t flawless on offense, but this game showed they can hang with a playoff-caliber team and keep the game close. However, no matter how proud you are of your team, you’ll never be champions if you can’t beat playoff-caliber teams.
Dallas had every opportunity to win that game. While there were great plays on offense, ultimately being picked apart, especially in the fourth quarter proved, Dak Prescott can be damn near perfect, worth every bit of the huge contract he just signed, make the Cowboys look like contenders again, and it still won’t be enough. Looking at the stat sheet, Dak matched Brady step for step.
But that’s where the headscratcher is because it’s not like the Cowboys’ defense didn’t make plays. Whether it’s clock management, defensive stops, or eliminating mistakes, if the Dallas Cowboys can’t keep opponents from making that last-second field goal Dak Prescott will be another great Cowboys QB whose talent goes to waste.
