Daredevil: Born Again – Don’t Play With Our Emotions, Disney
When it comes to the MCU, there have been a ton of highs and a few lows. None more so than the Netflix/MCU series like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. From the start, Iron Fist and the Defenders were not as well received as the others. Then came the cancellations along the way. One of the biggest letdowns were The Punisher, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones ending while they were in their prime. Now Disney+ has the rights to these shows and we’re finally getting some of our favorite characters brought back.
Unfortunately for audiences, it doesn’t look like they’re going to be around for long. When it comes to the Disney+ shows, they’re often limited series. Look at the majority of the Star Wars shows and the early MCU ones, most of them didn’t make them out of the first season. With the exception of The Mandalorian and Loki, they’re all limited. Agatha got her own spin-off of WandaVision, but how long with that last.
More Disney+: Star Wars Is Exactly What Disney+ Needed
With that being said, forgive us if we feel Disney is selling us short on the Daredevil: Born Again show. Yes, we can pump our fists for an 18-episode reboot, but Daredevil deserves more than just its placeholder between MCU films. When it was canceled at Netflix, it was at the height of not only its popularity but arguably the best story arc as well. However, if they bring it back just to bait us along for an Avengers movie and then take it away again, it’ll be such a letdown.
Furthermore, why is it only DareDevil getting the reboot treatment? Jessica Jones was awesome with Krysten Ritter. Jon Berenthal was the Punisher in most critics’ eyes. Those two actors embodied the characters and brought them to life on screen, and they were just as popular. Yet, Disney is only bringing Daredevil back for his own series?
Fans have been waiting for what seems like forever for his return. Charlie Cox in the Spider-man movie was the ultimate tease. Now we’re getting our Daredevil wish fulfilled and it doesn’t appear it will last long. Maybe that’s how Marvel and the MCU work. They give short runs on characters to keep them from getting stale. However, there’s nothing more disappointing than seeing characters you love being underutilized.
