Dating: Why Dating Apps Are a Scam
It’s almost 2020 and the rules of dating have changed slightly. From the old classic of meeting someone in a bar to personal ads, to online chats, and now there’s dating apps to help you find your next big love. But there’s one giant problem, most of these means are just scams waiting to happen. They don’t care whether or not you find love, because the more people that do, the less business they have. The less business they have, the more likely they’ll go out of business. Examining the bigger names on the block, each has their own faults. We tooled around on each of them and here’s what we found.
First there’s Tinder, the biggest scam of them all. It might be the biggest name out there and the most recognized of the bunch. It might be where the swipe left and swipe right started and now it’s spiraled into utter crap. Sure there’s plenty of genuine people looking for a match but most of the “profiles” are fake. What seems like 3 out of every 4 people has 1 photo and promoting their Snapchat story, or their instagram, or their porn site. Nothing about Tinder says you’ll find love.
Then of course there’s their premium content and micro transactions. Which is just as shady, pay for their subscription and it’ll reset all the people you already liked and disliked and the whole process starts all over.
Then of course there’s Bumble, another big name and another lets down in the dating world. Same swipe right and swipe left concept but this time the wrinkle that the girls get to initiate the conversation with the guys hoping to cut down on the creepers. But out of all the apps, even with the same exact profile there are far less matches on Bumble, so much so the app hardly seems worth it. To top it off, most of these same people can be found on Tinder where you’re more likely to get a match. As you go through it’ll say you’ve seen all your potential matches, close the app and there’s a whole list more.
If its not the apps we even tried match.com and of course it has its free content and paid content which yep, you guessed it its a scam too. Match will send you daily suggestions and if you wait long enough you’ll see the same suggestions about a week later. Even if you heart them a week later it won’t show that you did. Only about 1 out of 5 actually brings up a like and option to send them a message. At almost $35 a month to not get guaranteed matches is a giant waste of money.
And now even Facebook has joined the club. Luckily for their users at least these are verified users and real life singles. However, as close as this is to an actual meet up for potential relationships, it shows matches for people who are in the same Facebook groups or people who have attended similar events it hasn’t figured out it’s bugs either. We’re getting a lot more matches but it seems like a half-baked idea that’s still working out it’s kinks.
Unfortunately folks, if you’re looking for a true experience, your best bet is still out in public. Dating apps seem great for people who don’t have the time that they used to, but there’s no cheat codes when it comes to dating. Real life human interaction is still the best way to go.
