DCEU: Why Superman Failed In Their Shared Universe

DC Superman Logo

When it comes to DC, the role of Superman has been a love/hate relationship with fans. Fans loved Henry Cavill as the actor who played the Man of Steel, but not quite the scripts. Even the ones that enjoyed the movies admitted it still felt like something was missing. Looking back on the character, here’s what we need to see going forward that was never established in the Snyder-verse.

The Good Ol Boy

Whether you’re an old-school “Truth, justice, and the American Way” fan or in with the new ” Truth, justice, and a better tomorrow” the sentiment was always the same. Superman was always the do-gooder, cat from a tree, high-morale character. That never came across with the Zack Snyder Superman. While the story was still there as Clark being the outcast and not finding his place in the world, his story would’ve been better depicted if they showed both sides of that coin.

When the world was without Superman, it would have started to see just how much he did not only in terms of saving the world but how much he meant to small-town USA. We never got to see his full story. Every bit of Clark Kent should’ve shown up as much as the Man of Steel.

More Entertainment: DC Should Focus On Batman Universe?

Jonathan Kent

DC has the opportunity to rebrand itself in the coming years. The talk of giving fans what they want to see needs to be met with chances taken beyond the Trinity. If the Flash movie introduces a multiverse, why can’t we get a universe with Superman and his family? The same could be said of Batman. If they really are hitting the reset button, why aren’t the stakes a little higher? Hire a good, young, actor and build a franchise going forward. Dive deeper into Superman than just the usual beat ’em up.

Restore The Snyder-verse, Kinda

Joe Manganiello looked pretty badass as Deathstroke. Even if you’re not going forward with the same plot there were great pieces of the Snyderverse that could be carried on. Write in some of the actors that were in these movies to fit the character, but use a new take. We’ve already got 2-3 Batmen right now, why do we need another iteration of these characters, build on what you have? The problem was never the actors it was always the script.

If WB/Discovery wants to give fans what they want, start with a proper Superman. He can have a tormented soul, so long as he pushes through. That’s what makes the character so relatable, he perseveres.
