Denver Broncos: Teddy Bridgewater or Drew Lock
The Denver Broncos finished last year with just five wins. Despite their struggles, their focus in this year’s NFL Draft was on defense. Seven on their ten picks to be exact, which means they have to have confidence in their offense. Even though the defense was a priority the Broncos took a shot to upgrade at quarterback signing Teddy Bridgewater,
Drew Lock finished last season with just under 3,000 yards, 16 TDS, and 15 INTs in just 13 games. Quarterbacks are expected to make a big jump in year two of their career but it’s not unheard of for it to take a little bit longer. With talents like Melvin Gordon and Jerry Jeudy in his supporting staff, Denver should’ve seen a decent enough leap to commit to the young QB for the future. Bringing in a veteran only clouds the water.

Then, there’s Teddy Bridgewater. He came out strong with the Minnesota Vikings then an injury derailed his tenure. He was a decent fill-in for Drew Brees in New Orleans, but they ultimately went a different route. Last year could be considered a lackluster season. If Bridgewater can’t come out and make his mark for the Denver Broncos, then he could end up following a career path similar to Ryan Fitzpatrick. He’ll bounce around from team to team, never really being the guy, but holding the position until they can find the guy.
The Broncos need one of their two quarterbacks to step up, not just for this year but to protect their future. Denver has a talent rounding out their roster the past few seasons. If neither quarterback steps up this season, they’ll have to hit the reset button and start over again. Either that or pull a Peyton Manning-like offseason move to keep them afloat.
Drew Lock should be their guy moving forward but Bridgewater will test his limits. Denver needs Lock to be the QB of the future as they continue to rebuild and compete in the AFC. The Chiefs are already pulling away from the rest of the division and the Chargers and Raiders are hot on their tails. Denver can’t afford a full reset should neither quarterback pan out.
