Dexter: New Blood – How The Ending Can Be Different

Showtime's Dexter: New Blood

Showtime brought back one of its best shows all time this week with Dexter: New Blood. With fans upset the way the original show ended and people trying to make up ground in the streaming wars, each one is willing to bring back old favorites in hopes of drawing interest. Now that Dexter is back in our lives, can they fix the ending everyone was so disappointed in?

**spoiler alert, if you haven’t caught up yet, this is your warning to stop here. We’ll even throw in a trailer so you don’t inadvertently see something you shouldn’t.**

**Also, The Daily Culture has no affiliation with this show. We just love a good fan theory and we guess just as much as the casual viewers.**

More Entertainment: Dexter: New Blood – Can It Live Up?

If you’re with us, then you’ve already seen episode one. You know Dexter has moved on since his days in Miami and has started a new life all the way up in New York. A small town where everyone knows your (fake) name. Right off the bat, with a new intro and no narration Dexter: New Blood is looking to distance itself from the previous eight seasons. Of course, this might be deliberate with just how much people disliked the ending. So how would they fix it?

Well if you watched, you know Harrison is back and he tracks down his old man. Being hooked on Dexter, you had a feeling all along there was no happy ending for everyone’s favorite serial killer. Either he was going to get caught, or he wasn’t going to make it out alive himself. Now here’s the twist: What if Harrison is hunting him down for that very reason?

What if he blames Dexter for his mother’s (Rita) death? Maybe he’s not such a reflection of his mother but more of his father. After all, the show is called “Dexter: New Blood” and he’s not exactly working as a blood splatter analyst anymore. Sure, it could refer to him returning to his old ways, keeping souvenirs of his victims, but what if it doesn’t.

What if, like his father, Harrison seeks out revenge on who he blames for his mother’s death? Does he know about Dexter’s extracurricular activities? Would he buddy up to his father, only to betray him in the end? After all, every one of Dexter’s victims had to answer for their crimes. What other way would Dexter answer for his crimes than ending up on the table himself? When it’s all said and done, despite doing right he wasn’t exactly a good man himself.
