Skimming through the Entertainment News this weekend, I ran across something that slipped by me. To my surprise, Disney has cancelled Cloak & Dagger. Why? It wasn’t as popular as some of the other superhero shows but it did deserve more attention. For one, Freeform was not the right spot for it. With Disney getting their own streaming service, why not switch it over there?

This is the same approach that Disney has taken with the Netflix shows such as Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fost and the others. Great shows but canceling them at the height of the existence makes no sense at all. What’s interesting about this cancellation is that it may have come out of nowhere. According to Screen Rant, showrunner Joe Pokaski said: “it was a punch in the gut”.

This has led many to believe this was was a sudden move and if so, this may come back to haunt Disney. The two stars of Cloak & Dagger are set to appear in Season 3 of Marvel’s Runaways. With that over, fans were expecting more crossovers heading into Season 3 of Cloak & Dagger. Now, we will never get that.

Pokaski would also go on to say this was nothing more than a corporate move;

So, yeah. There are parts of me that feel gut-punched or angry at larger corporate forces, but the biggest feeling I have in my heart right now, by far, is pride. I’m so fucking proud with what we got to do on #Cloakanddagger.

Whats’ the logic behind this, no one knows. But just as fans were getting warmed up to Tyrone and Tandy, they’re snatched away from us just as quick. No disrespect to the cast of the Runaways, but if they were given three seasons, why not give the same to Cloak & Dagger?
