Disney: Should Encanto Get A Sequel Series?
When it comes to Disney, they’re always looking to expand on their properties. They’ve gone a variety of different avenues for their more successful properties. Between box office sequels, made for tv series, or even straight to DVD sequels, they’re always willing to expand their stories. As reported by ComingSoon.Net, from an interview with Collider there are talks to expand on their recent success with Encanto.
The Madrigals are an extraordinary family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed place called the Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift — every child except Mirabel. However, she soon may be the Madrigals last hope when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger.
When it comes to Encanto, it is one of their more popular movies of the past few years. In recent memory, only Frozen seems to have enjoyed an equally well-received between the movie itself and the soundtrack. But to what extent should we further this story? With how popular Encanto is, it could more than support the case for another box office hit. Gone are the days of “straight to DVD” but they’ve transitioned to streaming and their service doesn’t really need the boost in subscribers.
More Entertainment: Is Encanto The Best Disney Movie In Years?
If they are looking for something to prop up their streamer then their best route would be from a page of their 90s playbook. There was a time during that decade when plenty of their movies went to series. Movies like Aladdin, Timon and Pumbaa, and Lilo & Stitch to name a few, wound up with the series treatment. Encanto should be on that list of movies to become a series.
While the sequel could easily hit a home run at the box office, a series has a leg to stand on as well. First, while Encanto was about Mirabel, the larger picture was about the family Madrigal itself. With such a large cast, each with their own story and “gift”, they easily could pivot to episodes exploring each character’s backstory. From there, it would explore what role each family member plays. By the end of each season, the family could come together to overcome a season-long plot point in the very same fashion they would any live-action family show but with a family-friendly twist.
Whatever Disney wants to do with Encanto, it will more than likely be a success. It had a great cast, catchy music, and was all-around fun for the whole family. Hopefully, they decide on it sooner rather than later.
Rick ODonnell aka Caveman Rick has many years covering the Miami Dolphins, Sports, and all sorts of movies and television.
Although “We don’t talk about Bruno” I believe he should definitely be the first person highlighted in a series. What has he been doing all these years after being disowned by his family. He saw it all many years ago, with his precognitive gift, but no one wanted to listen. So his story would definitely be one to watch.
very true! he seems a little edgy and full of energy so he’d be perfect for that family friendly fun
