Don’t Go Into The Row (2018) With High Expectations

The Row

There aren’t many movies I’ll consider turning off 5 minutes in. The Row (2018) is one of those films. It’s just a complete mess. There are very few redeeming qualities in this film. Far from the worst I’ve ever seen, definitely lightyears away from being any good.

I got the urge to watch this movie because of the main star, La La Kent. I’m a big Vanderpump Rules fan. Once I found out she was starting in a film, I just needed to see it. Surprisingly, she wasn’t the worst part of this movie.

Randy Couture, the former MMA Fighter, can’t act his way out of a paper bag. One of the worst actors in the world. He gave a lifeless performance, showing the same emotion throughout the film. While there were other issues with casting as well, Couture was by far the worst.

As for the film itself, the story wasn’t as bad as it could have been. It definitely takes a bit to get its ducks in a row (no pun intended), but it’ll actually draw you in. The last act of the film does a great job tying together some loose ends. However, a lot of questions do remain unanswered.

Aside from some minor plot holes, one major issue stood out. The editing is some of the worst I’ve seen of any movie. It happens a lot more in the first act of the film, but it’s atrocious. This made The Row tough to actually watch.

The Row has an R rating. While there is a lot of blood, it was kind of unnecessary. Most of the rating comes from the excessive use of blood and gore. A PG-13 rating could have been wiser, seeing as the blood use really added nothing to the film itself.

You’ll start by thinking The Row is the worst film ever made. It’s really that bad for the first 25 minutes. As the movie settles in, it gets a lot better. I’d still go in with caution for this movie. There’s a lot more bad than good. A lot of my positives for this movie was just me grasping at straws, looking for some silver lining in an otherwise terrible production.

There aren’t a lot of reasons to watch this aside from being a Vanderpump Rules fan, or someone who loves horror (This film wasn’t scary in the slightest.). It’s not the worst film I’ve seen, certainly not the best. It’s on Hulu, so if you’re looking to laugh for the wrong reasons, check it out.
