Electric Eel Is A Great Fit For The SeaWorld San Diego Coaster Lineup

Electric Eel

Let’s talk about Electric Eel at SeaWorld San Diego. While similar to all of the other Sky Rocket II’s, this is still an enjoyable ride. For a lot of causal coaster fans, this is a unique coaster. Others (like myself) simply do it for the credit. Whatever stance you’ll take, the Eel is a worthwhile addition to San Diego.

Electric Eel is exactly like Superman Ultimate Flight (Six Flags Discovery Kingdom), Tempesto (Busch Gardens Williamsburgh), Tigris (Busch Gardens Tampa), and Phobia Phear (Lake Compoune). While there are more Sky Rocket It’s in the world, these are the US versions. Let’s compare the two California Sky Rocket II’s.

There are notable differences to both Superman and Electric Eel. For starters, the comfort collar. Superman doesn’t have the shoulder restraint, Electric Eel does. Because of this, you feel a bit more restricted on Eel. Superman just gives you the lap bar and seat belt. It’s honestly not too much of a hassle. However, when you’ve done Superman more than 20 times, it’s a difference you’ll hate.

Being that I’ve done Superman many times, I didn’t ride Eel more than once. In fact, I didn’t even bother to sit back row. I’ll say this much, though, Electric Eel felt a bit more forceful. I’ll probably just chalk this up to being a new setting and ride placement, but it’s something I couldn’t place my finger on.

One issue I had with Electric Eel, the themeing. Superman, Tempesto, are some of the more decorated themeing attempts. Eel just has a decent sign and plain load station. For a coaster that’s cloned so much around the world, a bit of themeing might make it stand out a bit more.

It’s hard to say Electric Eel is better than Superman. The comfort collar could have grown on me. Seeing as all the Sky Rocket II models are the same, something like a comfort collar can determine which is the better coaster. And that’s the one downfall of Electric Eel.

I’d ride Electric Eel again. The Sky Rocket II model is a fun, compact coaster that produces a lot of force and thrills. Being that SeaWorld San Diego is getting two new coasters from 2019-2020, the park will take on more of a thrill ride feel. Electric Eel is a great coaster to feature in their lineup.
