Eminem: Is Em In Trouble With Fans If He Doesn’t Respond To MGK Soon?
How long is too long of a wait until Eminem responds to the diss by MGK? This is Hip Hop and while it took Eminem a few years to respond the first time to MGK, this is more of a battle now. What has transpired of over the years between the two artists has been considered light jabs back and forth as MGK took a stab at EM’s daughter in a tweet in 2012. It wasn’t a diss, but it was a bit inappropriate behavior towards the 16-year-old (at the time) child.
Fast forward to 2018 and with the release of his new album ‘Kamikaze’, Eminem finally responded to the jabs that MGK has been sending over time. However, this is where Em took the Jay Z route and gave MGK a verse on the song ‘Not Alike’ in which he spits:
Oh, you run the streets, huh?
Now you wanna come and fuck with me, huh?
This little cock-sucker, he must be feelin’ himself
He wants to keep up his tough demeanor
So he does a feature, decides to team up with Nina
But next time you don’t gotta use Tech N9ne
If you wanna come at me with a sub, Machine Gun
And I’m talkin’ to you, but you already know who the fuck you are, Kelly
I don’t use sublims and sure as fuck don’t sneak-diss
But keep commenting on my daughter Hailie
I keep on telling motherfuckers
But just in case you forgot really and need Ja memories
Jarred like strawberry or pineapple, apricot jelly
Yes, it took Em some time to respond to the 2012 tweets but when he did, he did so on a level that appeals to Hip Hop fans. But, MGK would not go down without a fight on the track ‘Rap Devil’ where he responded to Eminem.
Let’s talk about the fact you actually blackballed a rapper
That’s twice as young as you (let’s talk about it)
Let’s call Sway
Ask why I can’t go on Shade 45 because of you (brrt)
Let’s ask Interscope
How you had Paul Rosenberg tryin’ to shelf me (huh?)
Still can’t cover up the fact
Your last four albums is as bad as your selfie
Now tell me, what do you stand for? (what?)
I know you can’t stand yourself (no)
Tryin’ to be the old you so bad you Stan yourself (ha)
Let’s leave all the beefin’ to 50 (please)
This is where I can’t claim a winner because one rapper provided one verse while another provided three plus a video. But still, what has the industry talking is that someone actually had the heart to come after Eminem and now we’re waiting for a response. This feels like the Drake and Meek Mill beef all over.
The question looming to many is– how long should we have to wait before Eminem responds or will he?
That’s not as easy of a question to answer as one may think, The Hip Hop fan in us believe we deserve an answer but the Eminem fan in us may think we may never get one. Em is not the one to have on-going issues on wax. MGK started it with the Hailie comment, Em took six years to respond. And when he did, he gave MGK ONE verse. MGK fired back with a song and Em could be sitting there thinking, why do it? Why give this guy whose career was over the time of day?
This is what happened to NAS and Jay Z. While NAS is way more relevant in the rap game, his time had passed before Jay finally decided to bring their back and forth to the forefront of Hip Hop. What Jay did was force NAS to write one of the sickest disses ever, thus bringing new life into the Queensbridge MC. Now, in no way am I comparing MGK to NAS but this is what MGK and his camp are waiting for. They need Eminem to respond more than we do.
If Eminem doesn’t respond, how will fans feel about that? Has he done enough over the course of his caeer to get a pass? But what if he does respond and it’s not as stong as the MGK response? This may be one of the first times where Em’s status is on the line. Remember, many felt that Meek Mill would destroy radio Drake and yet, it was Drake who came out on top. If Em does respond, this will have to be the greatest verse he’s ever written. Maybe, just maybe, this is what’s taking so long. Perfection doesn’t happen overnight.
