Entertainment: What about Instinct makes it a good show

We are at the point in the television season when several fall shows are wrapping up. However, there are shows that are first beginning now. One of the shows that have been on since the middle of March is the show Instinct on CBS. Based on James Patterson’s book Murder Games. The show follows Dr. Dylan Reinhart (played by Alan Cummings) an openly gay author, university professor, and former CIA officer is brought back into his old life by NYPD detective Elizabeth Needham (played by Bojana Novakovic) when she needs his help to stop a serial killer who is using his book as inspiration for murders.

The cast also includes Daniel Ings (Dylan Reinhart’s Husband Andy), Naveen Andrews who plays Julian Cousins, and Sharon Leal who plays Lt., Jasmine Gooden. In addition, Whoopi Goldberg guest stars as Dylan Reinhart’s book editor.  While the show may get slow at some points, it keeps your attention throughout the whole show.

I’ve seen most of season one already and I am impressed with what I have seen. When I am watching it, I feel a mix of Castle, Person of Interest, and Elementary in one show. Castle is the clearest one out of all three of them because Reinhart is a writer who is helping the NYPD like Castle did. Person of Interest is a bit tougher because, in the show Instinct, Reinhart comes off as a mister know it all. In Person of Interest, the character that Michael Emerson plays also came off like that and also had a ton of connections. Elementary comes into the show because Reinhart solves the crimes in a similar matter that Holmes does.

Overall it is a good show and one that I would highly recommend. It mixes in comedy and drama. Instinct airs on Sunday nights at 8 pm on CBS.
