Family Guy under fire for Kevin Spacey joke from 2005

It has been some time since Seth McFarlane’s Family Guy had been in the news. However, now the show is in the news for an old episode that made a joke about Kevin Spacey.

Back in October of 2017, Actor Kevin Spacey issued an apology to Anthony Rapp, who accused the House of Cards actor of behaving wrongly in front of him when he was 14. It seems now that someone on Twitter has uncovered a Family Guy episode from 2005 when a joke was made about Spacey. In the clip, Stewie is running through a store and is yelling, “Help! I’ve escaped from Kevin Spacey’s basement! Help me! Here is the clip as it was aired on TV:

During the FOX’s Winter TCA Press Tour, Seth McFarlane, the show’s creator, was asked about this joke and whether or not he knew something about Spacey. He said that he didn’t remember who pitched the joke, but that there was a rumor going around. It needed to be explained to him. I could see where people have a problem with it, but I don’t see why there is such a problem with it. He obviously didn’t know what was happening. There have been other people who are now finding jokes done by Family Guy about the other people brought up.

There is no difference with what the Simpsons, South Park, or Family Guy does. They all poke fun at whatever is going on in the mainstream media. Let us also not forget that the Simpsons and South Park have been around longer as well. I can see people putting pressure on FOX to do something with the show. Personally, I hope they don’t.

I want to make it clear that I am not condoning what happened, but this is an overreaction from some fans. Also when the episode aired back in 2005, it was only a rumor and not a fact.

Family Guy airs Sunday nights on Fox.
