NXT: How I would use Finn Balor’s return to set up War Games main event
Last night was arguably one of the biggest nights for professional wrestling. NXT was going live for two hours on the USA Network. AEW began their TV show Dynamite on TNT. There were a lot of surprises that happened between both brands. One of the bigger ones happened very early on NXT. NXT Champion Adam Cole took on Matt Riddle for the NXT Title to open the show.
After the match, we see Adam Cole in the ring celebrating the win. As this is going on, the camera pans to the walkway and we see Finn Balor’s name on the titanron. The former NXT champion and the inaugural Universal champion made his surprise return to the gold and black brand. We haven’t seen him since he lost to the Fiend at Summerslam this past year. Now that he is back, there’s a few things to look at.
What do you do with Finn Balor on NXT?
Finn Balor was first introduced to the WWE Universe in a tag match as the Ascension took on Hideo Itami and a debuting Finn Balor. After that, he would be the one to take on Kevin Owens for the NXT title. He would end up defeating him during the WWE Japan tour. Balor then went on a lengthy run before losing the belt to Samoa Joe. He was one of the top guys in NXT. For whatever reason it didn’t work out with him on the main roster.
Now that he is back in NXT, there’s only one option. You should have him feud with Adam Cole for the NXT title. You can use this to possibly accomplish two different things. There’s been talk of doing the O.C. vs. Undisputed Era, a feud between Adam Cole and Finn Balor could be used to get there. Option 2 is do a story line of two ex-bullet club leaders.
If I were Triple H, there’s one way to book the NXT title match at War Games. In a fatal four way, Adam Cole takes on Matt Riddle, Finn Balor, and Tomaso Ciampa who also returned to NXT.
