Five Teams Who Should Trade Back In The NFL Draft
This year’s NFL Draft hasn’t even arrived yet and there’s already action before the draft. First, the Miami Dolphins traded with the San Francisco 49ers so the Niners could move up. Then Miami traded again with the Philadelphia Eagles to move back up to the six spot. Given the amount of talent in this year’s draft. There are plenty of teams towards the top who should make a similar attempt to trade down.
Atlanta Falcons
Unless the Falcons are trying to draft a quarterback, then they should trade down. There may be a huge question mark in Matt Ryan, but if they’re sticking with him there’s no need to stay at #4 when so many teams need a QB. The Falcons have plenty of holes and could use a few high-round picks to make up their deficiencies.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals 100% should trade down, not only do they have the future quarterback in Joe Burrow, but even if he played the whole season, they weren’t on their way to a winning record. Burrow was lighting it up before his injury and the Bengals still struggled. To build around a young QB with that much talent, they need playmakers to match him. One playmaker isn’t going to turn this team around.

Carolina Panthers
No one is saying Sam Darnold will turn the Panthers around, but having missed an opportunity to trade up, it would only make sense to trade down. The bigger prospects will already be off the board by the time they pick so they’ll already be looking at the second tier of quarterbacks should they decide to take one. Why not move back a few spots to draft more upfront and a developmental quarterback on day 2?
Detroit Lions
The NFL Draft has been the thorn in the side of the Lions for years. They can get one great playmaker but never enough to get over the hump. Why not trade down, since they already picked up a quarterback in Jared Goff? Detroit is forever in a state of rebuilding so why not have more picks to throw against the wall and see what sticks?
Dallas Cowboys
Jerry Jones won’t let his ego make the smart play. He’s got way too much money invested to watch the Cowboys struggle year in and year out. He’s already rumored to make moves in this year’s NFL Draft wanting to move up supposedly to take Kyle Pitts. That just goes to show how out of touch with reality he is. If there are teams who still think they can get an instant impact player at the tail end of the top ten, Dallas could use some help with extra picks.
One thing’s for sure, more than one trade will be made in the first round of the NFL Draft. Who will be the team making the biggest move? Find out two weeks from today.
