For the Miami Dolphins: 2020 Is All About Leadership
The 2020 season, if it happens will be a season like no other. Hopefully, it’s one we never see again and one we get a full season out of. There will be the usual uphill battles with each football season, but then there’s the safety and challenges of playing during a pandemic. If there’s one thing the Miami Dolphins establish in the 20-21 season it’s the sense of leadership.
Of course, we’re talking about the usual on-field leadership. The Dolphins will look towards the veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick to take the leadership role and groom his eventual replacement, Tua Tagovailoa, along the way. The two already share similar personalities and demeanor and since Fitz doesn’t mind spreading his knowledge, Tua’s development ought to come much faster than the cutthroat nature of NFL QB’s.
But then, of course, there’s more than just the quarterback’s who will need to learn on the fly. Miami dove into the deep end in free agents and stocked up on draft picks. With a large portion of the team being turnover, the holdovers from last season’s disappointing season will have to step up and teach guys how to buy into the Brian Flores method of coaching. For instance, if it makes a comeback this season, there will be plenty of new guys learning all about the “T.N.T” wall for making costly mistakes.

But this year’s Miami Dolphins team will look beyond just the typical leadership when entering this trying year. They’ll also need guys to step up and hold fellow teammates accountable for following proper protocol if they want to go through with the season. Someone will have to make sure that every player on the field knows they’d be jeopardizing the safety of their teammates and season. Would the partying be worth it?
Of course, every team is going to have these same struggles, but the Miami Dolphins have needed the change of culture for years. Someone needed to step in and magnify the “team first” concept and 2020 is the perfect year to do so. When Brian Flores came in, one of the first things he wanted to establish was that mentality. The entire organization, on the same page, putting the team before themselves. 2020 might be a challenge for the Dolphins, but if they can get through it together, it will solidify the bond this team has been missing for years.
