Movies to be Made

Video games have grown in popularity over the past few years. With the likes of Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, and now Sonic the Hedgehog studios are taking favorites from our childhood and turning them into movies for their kids to enjoy as well. Looking back over the years, what other classics should make a comeback?

Mega Man

Mega Man is one of Nintendo’s oldest properties but has the potential to be something fun for all ages. If they can get a studio to take a similar approach as Sonic the Hedgehog, this classic favorite could play well on the big screen. It has a big following in Japan and would play well worldwide. If they can bring the character to live in a CGI world the same way, there’s a fan following that could turn the Mega man movie into a franchise.

The Legend of Zelda

At one point there was talk of a Legend of Zelda tv series on Netflix and that makes sense. With how long the franchise has been around and how many adventures we’ve seen out of Link, an ongoing series would make sense. With that falling through, then why not pivot to the big screen. There’s plenty to run with and a family-friendly movie would do well. In today’s world where everyone’s trying to one-up the competition, maybe it’s time for the gaming industry to expand their rights.

Twisted Metal

How fun would a demolition derby movie be with a Twisted Metal theme? So many movies take on the chaos of the gaming world and this one would have plenty. As a smash-em-up game, Twisted Metal could take on a Mad Max-style concept and add some comedy to it and it would be an instant hit. Find a few well-known comedic actors, hire a couple of big brutes to be the muscle, and a young female wild card into the mix and the movie seems like it would write itself.

God of War

With how many big-budget properties have failed on the big screen, it’s surprising that God of War has never made the transition. With a complete badass lead character with fantastic weapons, the fight scenes alone would be amazing. Then add in some well-placed CGI for his quest against the gods, and I’m not sure why this isn’t a thing.

The Sims

This one can get a little goofy and that’s okay. If they can turn Lego into multiple movies, then why not the Sims. Just as Jumanji pulled players into a real-life game, why can’t the Sims take a similar approach? Even the up-and-coming movie Free Guy takes a shot at video games and free will from the characters in-game. Taking an approach of choosing your day-to-day life and what satisfies you throughout your journey can turn the Sims into a very heartfelt movie.
