Gaming: Is A Playstation 5 Even Worth It?
If you’re like the majority of the population right now, you’re finding it hard to get your hands on a Playstation 5. There have been a lucky few that have, but besides the thrill of having a next-gen console that few people do, is it even worth stressing yourself out over getting?
Due to manufacturing issues thanks to shortages in production from covid, Sony hasn’t been able to keep up with the demand for their latest console. The PS 5 is as hard to find as the Nintendo Switch was when the height of the pandemic hit. Having played the console for a few months now, the real question has to be asked. Why did we all rush to get this console?

First, there’s not a ton of games out for it. Yes, they have crossplay games you can play with friends on Xbox, but not many. Then there’s a couple of big exclusives like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, but nothing is screaming run out and buy a Playstation 5 because you’re missing out. If Sony can’t figure out how to push developers to release more content for the PS 5 why would anyone go through the trouble?
Then there’s the competition. Sure, Xbox just hit a home run with their purchase of Activision/Blizzard but that’s not the hard line in the sand. Sony did just purchase Bungie but the developer has far fewer titles. No, the real problem the Playstation 5 needs to address is their lack of subscription service in regards to their gaming library. Yes, it’s been rumored that they’ll bring a GamePass style service to the PS 5, but it needs to be fast.
While there’s a handful of exclusive titles out right now, Sony will need to make a big push to keep interest up and demand high. With the price of games rising, it becomes harder to want to play some of the more family-friendly games. As fun as the Ratchet and Clank games are, it’s hard to spend $60+ when you’ve just purchased one of their other exclusive titles.
Sony needs a gaming service like GamePass and it needs to be almost immediately. Sales might be up, but the water is luke-warm for Playstation 5 content. Microsoft and Xbox will soon overtake Sony if they can’t keep up with the current trends that allow gamers to try games without spending $60 a game. They’re just not releasing games quick enough or allowing enough to be cross-platform. Eventually, it will piss enough gamers off they’ll make the switch.
