New England Patriots: Greatest Sports Dynasty Ever

As the New England Patriots are now celebrating their fifth Super Bowl title after having what many consider to be one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the Super Bowl, there was now a question being brought up in sports fans minds, “Does this now make the Patriots the greatest dynasty of any of the four North American sports?”

Personally, I’d say that the Patriots winning on Sunday night pretty much solidified them as the greatest sports dynasty. If you look over the years in any of the four major sports and every sport had their dynasty teams. In the NBA, you have the San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls; in the NHL, you have the Detroit Red Wings and the Montreal Canadians. When it comes to Major League Baseball, you have the New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

However, the common thing that lies with all of these teams is their runs came to an end. For example, the New York Yankees dominated the baseball landscape from 1949 until 1962, when they won eight titles and appeared in the World Series every year in that time span. They would repeat the level of dominating baseball when they won the World Series in 1996,1998,1999, and 2000. So it’s not uncommon to see a sports team go on a run, however as the old saying goes, All good things must come to an end. However, I personally feel the Patriots are redefining that saying.

Since the Tom Brady/ Bill Belichick regime began in 2001 the Patriots have won the AFC East every year except for 2002 and 2008. It is remarkable that in sixteen years, the Patriots have won the AFC East fourteen times, they have won the AFC eight times, and won the Super Bowl five times. What should be noted is they have had a ton of pieces either move on through retirement, trades, or being released. They have pretty much dominated the National Football Scene for the better part of fifteen years and I don’t see them slowing down. I say this because reports were surfacing that the Patriots figure they can get another three to five years out of Brady. So as long as Tom Brady is the Quarterback and Bill Belichick is the head coach, I don’t any team that can stop this.

Overall, as much as I am not a fan of the Patriots, you got to acknowledge how good this team is and how this run they are currently on will go down in the history books.
