Green Bay Packers: Offseason Panic Mode 2021 Edition

Aaron Rodgers of the NFL potential New York Jets QB

The Green Bay Packers started off as a team on a mission. At one point they looked like early Super Bowl favorites. However, as they often do, they quickly cooled down the stretch and you have to wonder what will keep the panic at bay?

Cap Strapped

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before but there’s an NFC team that’s strapped for cash this offseason. While Green Bay made it to the playoffs and looked like they were going to rebound, they keep investing and falling short. Only six other teams are looking worse off than the Pack and they’ll need to sort it out quickly.

Aaron Jones Will Likely Walk

Jones is expected to get a big payday this offseason. The Packers chose not to franchise tag the young running back probably because of the lack of cap space. Being as he was a big part of the offense, the Packers once again will be searching for an every-down back. In the seasons where Green Bay’s run-game suffered so did the Packers. Focus on the run is what allows Aaron Rodgers to pick apart defenses.

A Post-Rodgers Era

It’s been rumored that the Pack wants to move on from Rodgers and transition to Jordan Love. Green Bay is no stranger to moving on from a past-their-prime QB having done so when Rodgers took over for Brett Favre. Too bad for them, Green Bay was good last season. There’s no real out when your team keeps on winning.

The problem is, is Rodgers hasn’t won much since he beat the Steelers in the Super Bowl in 2011. Yes, he is one of the greatest passers of all time, but at his age and contract, you get paid to win. Can Green Bay find a way to move on without alienating their fan base?

Fixing the DBs

Defensively, the Green Bay Packers haven’t been the powerhouse they used to be. They turned out a respectable year but the bend but don’t break didn’t pay off in the long run. Despite allowing better than most in yards per game, the defense allowed over 7 yards per catch. When it came to the playoffs, Tom Brady and the Bucs exposed that stat and chipped away at their pride. The offseason needs to be about buckling down and stopping the big plays.

Green Bay will most likely be competitive again this season. The NFC North isn’t that strong but at any given time all 4 teams could surprise you. Whether it’s good or bad, it’s one of the more unpredictable divisions in the NFL. Can the Packers win it again next year?
