Green Bay Packers: Rodgers Needs to Stop Being a Diva

Aaron Rodgers of the NFL potential New York Jets QB

The Green Bay Packers could be on the path to a rocky breakup with their franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The soon-to-be 16-year veteran has been frustrated with his time as a Packer and is holding out on mandatory camps. He’s claiming that the problem stems from the franchise’s philosophies and not with second-year vet Jordan Love.

To put it bluntly, that’s a load of bs.

First, Rodgers has been trying to play a heavy hand thinking he’s holding all the cards. Because he’s been their franchise quarterback for so long, he’s been trying to pull the strings on a new contract. To be fair, the Packers should probably pay up for the guy who’s been there for so long. His main problem is, up until recently it was reported that he wanted a fully guaranteed contract similar to Kirk Cousins in Minnesota.

Rodgers is far above Cousins in terms of talent which is a blessing and a curse. While it should play into his hand, he’d also likely land a much heftier contract. With a lot of bloat in it, a contract of that size would be almost impossible to guarantee it. we’re not talking $84 million dollars over multiple years. Rodgers would more than likely get a contract in the range of $120-150 million.

Then throw in the Jordan Love of it all. Rodgers can say that he’s not mad at the Packers for drafting Love all he wants, but he’s lying to an extent. He could be best of friends with Love, mentor him into future success, and even come back to coach him to a Super Bowl it still doesn’t change his attitude towards the Packers. He knows that the Pack drafted Love to give them the upper hand in contract negotiations.

These two trains were going to collide eventually. Aaron Rodgers should’ve known one day he’d be looking over his shoulder the same way Brett Favre did.

But when it’s all said and done, statistics aside, what has Rodgers won to feel he holds the cards. He’s a franchise quarterback, the face of an organization, and a former Super Bowl champion. However, at the end of the day, statistics only look good on paper, wins are what matters.

Yes, Rodgers is a winner, but in the past decade alone, he’s been to one Super bowl and 4 more Conference Championships and has walked away from those big moments with zero wins.

Does Aaron Rodgers deserve what he’s owed? Yes, he’s one of the greatest quarterbacks of a generation. What he doesn’t deserve is to hold out and be a distraction for his teammates. Aaron Rodgers has no plan to sit out the 2021 season. If he really wanted to hold the cards, he’d stop playing emotional chess, go out and win a Super Bowl. He could ask at that point whatever he wanted.

Feed Packers fans a song and dance all you want Mr. Rodgers, but you’re just mad you’re not getting your way.
