Grey’s Anatomy: A Spinoff Should Focus On Zola As A Cop

Grey's Anatomy

Sooner or later, Grey’s Anatomy will come to an end. However, it doesn’t have to go out quietly or without being forgotten forever. There have been two spinoffs from this amazing show. Private Practice which followed Addison Montgomery as a physician in Los Angeles and more currently, Station 19 which follows Ben Warren as a firefighter. But wait, there could be more.

If Grey’s is done after Season 17, then the question of what’s next will be asked. Private Practice is off the air after a successful six seasons and Station 19 is in the middle of their 4th season. But Grey’s can take it a step further with Meredith Grey’s daughter, Zola Grey-Shepherd.

Grey’s can do a time jump and place Zola as the lead of a new cop show in Seattle. While most of the characters in the current Grey’s timeline will be much older, there’s a chance that some can return. A cop show is the only thing missing in the Seattle franchise.

Although Zola wants to be a neurosurgeon like Derek, she can always change her career path. While it would be nice to extend the Grey Sloan Memorial storyline, it can still be done much like Station 19 has done or take a page out of the Chicago One series with Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med.

If ABC is looking to extend the franchise after Grey’s run, then Zola is the right person to carry the torch. A time jump has been the norm for most networks and will work well with a new cast. There are not too many cop shows with an African-American lead let alone a female lead.

ABC has done a great job with crossovers and there’s no reason to think that putting Zola in a lead role would not work.
