Grey’s Anatomy: The Biggest Loser So Far Is Not Meredith, It’s Bailey

Grey's Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy is in its 17th season and while there is a rumor this could be it for the medical drama, the writers are putting everything on the table as far as storylines and emotions. To begin, Meredith Grey was diagnosed with COVID-19, and fans just knew it couldn’t get much worse from there. But wait, this is what Grey’s does better than any other show. They make you think one thing, and while your busy either cheering or crying, they hit you with another atomic bomb. This time it was in the form of Miranda Bailey.

Yes, Meredith is the one sick in bed and breathing by a machine but look at what Miranda has had to endure since the beginning of the season.

For starters, she’s the Chief of a major hospital in the middle of a pandemic and must keep things flowing as normal when that’s almost impossible. Besides COVID, Bailey has had to deal with personal troubles concerning her own doctors. Teddy and Owen are at odds over infertility, Amelia and Link are at home dealing with their own and Meredith’s kids while she’s sick, and Jo is doing everything she can not to fall apart after the departure of Alex Karev.

But wait, there’s more. She hasn’t been around her family. Her husband Ben is out saving lives and the kids have been without their mother this year. But then the drama hits Miranda hard where the sympathy fans were holding out for Grey, shifted in the favor of Bailey.

She convinced her parents to come to Seattle but then the pandemic hit. While people were losing loved ones every day, Miranda and her family were not spared. Thanks to the outbreak, Miranda’s mother fell ill and passed away with Miranda not able to say her goodbyes.

And yet, the writers weren’t done with her pain.

When Andrew Deluca lost his mind, it was Miranda who had to make the hard call concerning his medical career. And for Deluca, he wanted to prove to Bailey that he could return to the surgeon he was before his breakdown. She helped ground him but she also helped save him.

When Deluca was stabbed and taken into the OR, Bailey was asleep looking after Meredith. When she was told the news that Deluca had passed, it was at that moment I realized something was off. Meredith shared an intimate relationship with Andrew but Bailey had her own personal reasons for mourning. She never got a chance to say goodbye.

She never got a chance to say she was proud of his journey. He was just gone and the grief hit her like a ton of bricks. Yes, Meredith is the central figure on Grey’s Anatomy but this season has focused on Miranda Bailey’s pain more than anyone else’s. It’s just been hidden so well, that most fans have overlooked what she has gone through this season.
