Has Tom Brady Set An Untouchable NFL Record?

Potential Titans qb Tom Brady

There are some records in professional sports that will never be broken. Whether there have been rule-changes or they’re once in a lifetime phenomenons, they’ll go down in history as the toughest records to break. Did Tom Brady just set one of those records?

Major League Baseball has Pete Rose’s hit record (4,256), Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hit streak (56), and Cal Ripken’s consecutive games played (2632). Even Cy Young’s 749 complete game record at 749 is so far out of reach.

In the NBA the Boston Celtics have their 8 consecutive NBA Championships. Wilt Chamberlian scored 100 points in a single game.

The NFL is no stranger to those records. No one will approach Brett Favre’s 297 consecutive starts for a long time. The closest active quarterback is Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford with 134. Even with the NFL tailored to passing, Jerry Rice’s 1549 career receptions seems out of reach. Larry Fitzgerald is the closest to that mark with 1,432 and would need to play at least two more years despite talking about hanging it up multiple times.

Records are made to be broken but Tom Brady’s 10th Super Bowl appearance in his career might be the one that never gets broken. Not only has he been there 10 times, but he’s also won 6 going into this year’s Super Bowl. He’s got more wins than some teams have ever been. Tom Brady has more championships under his belt than the entire list of NFL franchises. Pittsburgh Steelers and by default New England Patriots, are the only ones tied with Brady’s six championships in history. If he wins his record seventh Super Bowl he’ll hold that record overall 32 clubs.

Argue the cheating, the refs, or help from other players all you want. Tom Brady’s NFL Super Bowl records will never be touched by another quarterback in this lifetime. You could argue that the Chiefs are the NFL’s next great dynasty with Patrick Mahomes appearing in back to back Super Bowls, but Brady’s mark has him in a championship every other year of his 20-year career. The Chiefs are dominating the NFL right now, but how long can it last. Can they rotate out players past their 4-5 year window and still maintain that constant level of talent or will the rest of the NFL catch up? Will they be able to maintain the level of play past Andy Reid’s tenure?

Make no mistake about it, some will come close, but no one will catch Tom Brady’s Super Bowl records.
