Houston Astros rumors: World Series contenders by trading for Jacob deGrom?

We are a few weeks away from the July 31st MLB trade deadline. It is typical that you will tend to hear a lot of rumors of teams expressing interest certain players who they can help them make a 2nd half push. One of the biggest rumors going around is that the American League West-leading Houston Astros have expressed a lot of interest in New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom.

From the Astros view, it would help greatly. It would add another piece to help Dallas Keuchel out and make them a dangerous one-two punch. While it seems more than likely that the Astros are making the playoffs, the addition of deGrom would make it tough for any team. However, while the pitching will be there, you still need the hitting to carry you. Another thing to look at is that he is under contract through the end of the 2017 season, adding in the fact that he is still young, the Astros could resign him to a nice contract.

While it would be nice, I would feel that the Mets should do it. Yes, I see this hurting the Mets pitching staff a bit. However, if you don’t resign and let him walk, you won’t get anything back for him. It has been speculated that the Mets are probably not going to be able to keep all of there young arms due to how much they are probably going to be asking. You also have to look at the fact that the Astros have been building this now powerhouse team for some time.

On the other hand, it seemed that the Mets have been focusing mainly on their pitching staff over the last few years. New York has something in their favor. They can quickly ask for a steep price in return for trading the star pitcher. The Mets are not giving up someone who would be a back of the rotation or bullpen guy. They are giving up someone who would be a number one in most rotations but would be a number two due to Dallas Keuchel.
